37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts Sponsors “13th Annual Back To School Gospel Fest”
The summer of 2012 in Chicago has been seen its unfortunate share of violence against school-age students and adults in neighborhoods across the city. That’s why Alderman Emma Mitts, the 37th Ward Pastor’s Alliance, community and religious leaders, other local civic organizations and the Mid-Austin Steering Committee believe it’s vitally important to offer more positive, fun-filled activities in the community to support families and keep our youth on the right track and pursuing academic excellence.
On Saturday, August 4, 2012, at La Follette Park, an exciting neighborhood festival offered hot fun for all ages, positive images, good food and the cool, spiritual sounds of Chicago’s best gospel choirs and groups during the 13th Annual “Praises & Progress Builds Unity in the Community” 37th Ward Back-to-School Gospel Fest!
“Celebrating education is a vital part of moving students into future professional and personal success, and this is our 13th year of providing safe, summer fun and supporting the education of our youth,” said 37th Ward Alderman Emma M. Mitts, a strong woman of God and a caring and compassionate elected official.
That’s why this day-long event promoted the Alderman’s long-standing motto of ‘Unity in the Community,’ positive behaviors and featured food, games, entertainment and inspirational messages to inspire youth and adults throughout the summer and into the fall, during the start of the new upcoming school year.
The lovely and legendary Pam Morris, the ‘Chicago’s Gospel Sister,” heard every Sunday morning and afternoon on WVON RADIO – ‘The Talk of Chicago,’ 1690-AM served as emcee of the morning’s festivities.
