Chicago State hosts 19th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser featuring Motown legend, Smokey Robinson

The Chicago State University Foundation (CSUF) will host their 19th Annual Fundraising event, An Evening with Smokey Robinson on Thursday, September 19 on the CSU campus. The scholarship fundraising concert, emceed by Windy City Live’s Val Warner, will take place at the Jones Convocation Center (JCC) beginning at 8 p.m. (Doors open at 7:00). Funds raised will support CSU students pursuing their educational goals.

The CSU Foundation is pleased to host this first time scholarship fundraising concert featuring Smokey Robinson, who was once pronounced by Bob Dylan to be America’s “greatest living poet”. Robinson’s career spans over four decades of hits. His numerous awards include the Grammy Living Legend Award, NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award, Honorary Doctorate (Howard University), Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts Award from the President of the United States. He has also been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.

The CSU Foundation is pleased to have the support of an outstanding honorary committee for this first time event. Serving on the committee for the Scholarship Concert are Herb Kent (CSU Radio/V103), Cliff Kelly (WVON Radio), Tim Rand (Midway Wholesalers) George Daniels (George’s Music Room), Lisa Halley Huff (PNC Bank), Maurice Grant (Grant Schumann, LLC), Art Sheridan (Retired Record Executive), David Day (Macy’s) Fred Siegman (Siegman Consulting Services), Candace Jordan (Candid Candace), Dana London (CSU Alumni), Joan Collaso (Entertainer), Mike Owens (Chicago Tribune), and Richard Steele (WBEZ Radio).

The Chicago State University Foundation was incorporated in 1968 as an independent, charitable organization with the sole purpose of soliciting, receiving, and administering private gifts to Chicago State University. The CSU Foundation is committed to “helping one student at a time” by raising funds to support CSU students and programs.

Concert tickets range from $50 for general admission seating to $200 for VIP seating, which includes an open bar and appetizers.
