The 21st Annual Garfield Park Basketball Program will serve approximately 200 young people between the ages of 13-18 All leagues are free.
The program provides youth and teenagers the opportunity to participate In an organized, free, basketball league complete with Awards: 1st, 2nd, place trophies. All games are played exactly the way they are played in school. The program is designed to keep young people off the street during key hours of the day.
Girls (frosoph & varsity) begins: Monday, June 6, 2014 (all games played on Mondays & Wednesdays at: 6:00pm & 7:00pm)
Young Men (varsity) begin Tuesday, April 7, 2014 (all games played at: 5:30pm, 6:30pm & 7:30pm)
Boys (freshman) begins on April 12, 2014 (all games played at: 10:00 am,11:00 am,12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, Saturdays only)
All teams will play a 14 game schedule, all teams make the playoffs (one round elimination), all 3 champions and runner-ups will receive beautiful trophies.
Garfield Park feels that this program helps develop not only basketball Skills but also social skills and promotes esprit de corps. But most Importantly, the leagues helps them avoid the negative activity. “We know where they are between 5:30-9:00 pm.” Jim Hobson said.
