On Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church located on West Chicago Avenue, the two organizations hosted a diaper giveaway to anyone who came to receive. Between 3:00pm and 5:00pm, members of the Greater Austin Child Care Providers’ Association distributed over 200 packages of diapers to mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends. All of the members are Licensed Family Child Care Providers serving both the west and south sides of the city.
Being parents and grandparents themselves, and an important support for the families they service, these Greater Austin Providers understand the importance of every small contribution to the incessant needs of babies. When World Vision approached Ms. Robbie Anthony, President of GACCPA, about the idea of hosting a diaper giveaway in the community, she didn’t hesitate to participate.
This Association has been a long time member of the Chicago region of World Vision, an organization dedicated to sponsoring and supporting children locally and internationally. World Vision – Storehouse is a member driven organization where Chicago area members can shop for home, personal, and office products from their warehouse located at 5001 W. Harrison Street.
People traveled by car, van, walked and on bikes to the Mount Olive M.B. Church to receive a package of diapers, or two. Many of the home based Providers’ own clients came prepared to give thanks and a hug and receive a much appreciated gift. Fred Sawyer, Warehouse manager, brought the diapers to the delivery site. Site Manager, Michael Smart and, Ken Benson CYS, of World Vision Chicago were on site to hand out diapers and thank people for coming out.
Greater Austin Child Care Providers’ Association will be hosting their annual banquet, a 70’s Party, on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Sankofa Cultural Center, 5840 W. Chicago Avenue.
